Today, David Fu was our tour guide as we explored Beijing. David is a Christian who must meet in an underground home church. At this time, his pastor is in jail. It takes courage to be a Christian here. Our first stop was the Forbidden City, the walled city that housed the Emporer and his many wives and concubines. The common people were forbidden access to this huge compound which was built in the 1400's. Here's a picture of us standing at the entrance gate with Chairman Mao Tse Tung looking over our shoulder. We walked through Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in any city in the world. We took a bicycle rickshaw tour of the Hutong district which is in the old traditional part of Beijing. A real cultural/historical experience. It makes you feel kind of small to be walking around in a city of 17 million people. We ate lunch in the home of a Chinese family in the Hutong district. Real Chinese food! Above is a picture of Bradley holding a spoon after he finally gave up on the chopsticks. In the afternoon we toured a silk factory to see how silk from a worm's cocoon becomes colorful Chinese outfits. Kathy helped the local economy by bringing several of them home. We spent today with two other American couples who are also adopting through Living Hope.

Hey guys,
Thanks for posting! Ruth and I love following your trip. It brings back a lot of memories. We loved going to the forbidden city. We didn't get to see Tiananmen Square because it was closed off when we were there. I can relate to Bradley. I didn't use chop sticks often. You'll love going to the great wall. Enjoy every minute - it goes by fast. We're praying for Monday. Blessings, Randy Davis

Have fun and be careful! We miss you and can't wait to meet Grace! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are thinking of you, Chad, Amy, Ashley, Allison, and Chaddie

Dear Kathy, Rick and Bradley: How exciting to read your blog posts and feel a part of the journey to get our precious grand-daughter home with you. Our continued prayers go with you and with Grace as she awaits your arrival on Monday. Bring on the pictures! Hugs a bunch, Mom and Dad Potts

Kewel!!!!

Neato torpedo! You guys are getting a classic mainland China experience. Chopsticks are a challenge, Bradley. . .but if you watch the Chinese, you'll pick it up (seems like they hold the bowl or plate close to their mouths and scoop the rice in, etc.). Enjoy your weekend!

Uncle/Brother Keith

Dear Russel Family~
We are praying for all of you. We hope your trip goes well and that Grace's transition is smooth. We can't wait to see her in your arms.
It is so neat to see you where we were 18 months ago.

Blessings to you all,
Ken, Mystina, Micah and Olivia
