This morning it was back to the Civil Affairs Office to finalize the adoption. We had a one day period of what China calls "a period of harmonious relationship." It's their way of saying that we had a day as foster parents to decide whether or not this was a match. First they took our picture for the official record. Then we were interviewed. They asked us questions like: "Do you promise not to torture and abandon the child?" and "Do you want to keep this child, or give her back to the People's Republic of China?" Well, we think she's a keeper! After we told the officials that, we signed a paper which made it all official.
We celebrated by going shopping. We went to a Wal-Mart type store for some snacks, and other supplies. Grace likes riding in the cart.
Tomorrow we go to the doctor for the medical exam she needs to get her visa to the USA. Then we will go to the police station to apply for her China passport, which she needs to get out of this country. Then, for the rest of the time we are here it is waiting for these documents so that we can have our appointment at the U.S. Consulate. This whole process has been one continual paper chase for two and a half years. We can't wait for it to be over.
We had Thai food for supper. Grace loves steamed rice and brocolli and carrots--as long as there are some french fries to help them go down.
Thanks for all your prayers...more later.
